Carl and David Cowan, who are twins, will have birthdays separated by more than a month.
The father, David Cowan Sr, is an emergency-room doctor in Saudi Arabia and flew back with his wife, Elene, to Kansas City, Missouri, waiting their sons’ arrival when Elene was only 23 weeks pregnant. Within hours of arriving in Kansas, the doctors at Research Medical Center, told the Cowans that the amniotic sac holding baby Carl was actually bulging and Elene soon went into labor. The doctors were unable to stop those labor pains, and Elene delivered Carl, who weighed more than a pound at 24 weeks and one day.
Ellen told KCTV “I thought he would die, there’s no way he’s going to make it.”
Carl did make it, and doctors tied her cervix shut and ordered complete bed rest until David Jr, was born almost six weeks later. He weighed in at 2.9 lbs. After nearly 4 months in the hospital, both boys have now gone home. Ellen said, “I’m so grateful to God and the prayers from everyone.”
