Three teenagers were kidnapped late Thursday evening around Gush Etzion, an Israeli neighborhood while hitchhiking. One of the teens left a message on their cellphone, just before the phone was taken, letting Israeli officals know they were being kidnapped.
“We are determined to bring them home and bring the perpetrators of their abduction to justice,” said Lt. Col. Peter Lerner, a spokesman for the Israel Defense Forces.
“People have just dropped off the face of the earth and the three boys, who are our main concern, are the focus of our efforts,” Lerner told CNN. “Hamas are behind that, and we are doing everything we can to shake them up as soon as possible in order to bring the boys home.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke Monday with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and told him to “assist in returning the abducted youths and in apprehending the kidnappers,” according to Netanyahu’s office. Netanyahu has now blamed Hamas for the kidnapping.
“Those who perpetrated the abduction of our youths were members of Hamas — the same Hamas that Abu Mazen made a unity government with,” Netanyahu has stated Sunday.
Abu Mazen is another name for Abbas, whose government now includes Hamas, which controls Gaza. “The consequences of the partnership with Hamas must be understood: It is bad for Israel, bad for the Palestinians and bad for the region,” Netanyahu said.
Carl and David Cowan, who are twins, will have birthdays separated by more than a month.
The father, David Cowan Sr, is an emergency-room doctor in Saudi Arabia and flew back with his wife, Elene, to Kansas City, Missouri, waiting their sons’ arrival when Elene was only 23 weeks pregnant. Within hours of arriving in Kansas, the doctors at Research Medical Center, told the Cowans that the amniotic sac holding baby Carl was actually bulging and Elene soon went into labor. The doctors were unable to stop those labor pains, and Elene delivered Carl, who weighed more than a pound at 24 weeks and one day.
Ellen told KCTV “I thought he would die, there’s no way he’s going to make it.”
Carl did make it, and doctors tied her cervix shut and ordered complete bed rest until David Jr, was born almost six weeks later. He weighed in at 2.9 lbs. After nearly 4 months in the hospital, both boys have now gone home. Ellen said, “I’m so grateful to God and the prayers from everyone.”

Formula One racing great Michael Schumacher is no longer in a coma and has now left a French hospital while receiving treatment from a skiing accident in December. Schumacher left the hospital in Grenoble “to continue his long phase of rehabilitation,” manager Sabine Kehm said in a statement.
Schumacher, 45-year-old, German driver was hospitalized with severe head injuries after his Dec. 29 ski accident, which split his helmet as he crashed into rocks on the slope at the Meribel ski resort in the French Alps.
Schumacher’s family “would like to explicitly thank all his treating doctors, nurses and therapists in Grenoble as well as the first aiders at the place of the accident, who did an excellent job in those first months,” Kehm’s statement said.
Doctors in Grenoble put him into a coma to rest his brain and decrease swelling, and they operated to remove blood clots, but some were too deeply embedded.
Little information has been released on Schumacher’s condition over recent months. Monday’s statement was the first substantial update since Kehm said in early April that Schumacher “shows moments of consciousness and awakening.”
